What I Haven't Read Today
These would be articles that caught my eye but have fallen outside my allotted reading time. Today a gardening theme - started in chain by a story about west country walks. Something we could do here. Amuse Bouche pt. II: Chocolate Holly Leaves &...
Turns out that preparing the cranberries is the most difficult bit, because they are prone to burst as they cook. Initially I tried boiling them, but they popped within a minute. So then I tried steaming: same result. Double boiling: I set a bowl of red wine into a slow cooker. Same result. I did the same with a bowl of evaporated milk - this time they didn’t split, and gained a...

Cranberry Amuse-Bouche
It’s that time of season, and I’ve been tasked with preparing a Christmas-themed morsel for a party. I’m thinking holly, but as that’s inedible/toxic, I need a substitute, and cranberries will do quite nicely. So I’ve looked around at various recipes, and come up with a smashing list of them at Epicurious. Brandied Dried Cranberries and Cherries Mulled-Wine...

What Is Cartography?

Making maps is also about figuring ways for people to recognise the
information.
Can you map the sensations of a pinprick so that someone else
understands the sensation in the absence of a pin?
Not that I know of, so tactile maps have some way to go before they
become meaningful.
Can you map the experience of standing in the rain with a bunch of
friends drinking mulled wine and talking about the internet?
Can you relate the complexity of moving through town in a way that
records your impresions for others to review?
Yeah. Use a camera, microphone, and assorted drawing tools.

From: Tesla coil enthusiasts: Danger and drama part of allure — chicagotribune.com On this night, the Masters of Lightning just want to make sure Blake’s new helmet is safe. It’s tested first without Blake inside, then with him wearing it and lifting his hands to low-voltage sparks from a coil. With nowhere to run their coils over the winter, the men work on new ideas....
